Even if you’re a veteran smoker, there will be times when you get caught out and don’t have any rolling paraphernalia at hand. This can be quite a pain, especially when you’re all ready to smoke and relax.
Luckily, there are plenty of different things you can use to smoke your weed. Some of them are pretty obvious, but others are quirky and fun. One such quirky way is in the form of an apple pipe.
If you’ve been smoking a while, you probably know what an apple pipe is, and if you don’t, you’re about to find out! We’re going to go over what this pipe actually is, as well as show you how to make one for yourself!

What Is An Apple Pipe?
If you’ve never heard of an apple pipe before, then we’re going to tell you exactly what it is. If the name wasn’t already a dead giveaway, it is quite literally a pipe that is made using an apple!
Occasionally, they are called apple bongs, and they are homemade pipes made using a real apple. You then make a few holes in the apple to smoke from and put your weed in.
It’s quite similar in functionality to an actual bong, and lots of people consider this to be a healthy way to smoke weed, though that hasn’t actually been proven.
Apple pipes or bongs are great to make when you don’t have the right paraphernalia close by and they are super easy to make. Even if you are new to smoking, you will have no problems making them for yourself.
How To Make An Apple Pipe
Making an apple pipe is incredibly easy, and as long as you follow these steps exactly, you will have your own version made in no time at all.
All you really need to make an apple pipe for yourself is an apple and a pen, so once you have these items, you can follow the steps we have provided here.
Step 1: Apple & Pen
As previously mentioned, you will need an apple and a pen to bring this pipe to life, but there are a few things you should know before you start.
You first need to make sure that your apple of choice is fresh because soft apples can collapse as you are making the hole. If this happens, you will just have to start again, so it’s better to just avoid this complication completely.
Ball-point pens are the best kind of pen to use because you can unscrew them and take the ink out. This is helpful because there’s always a chance you might spill the ink.
It’s also important that you don’t use a pencil instead, because it is very likely that it will break while you are trying to make a hole with it.
Step 2: Remove The Apple Stem
Now you know which tools to use, you can now begin to make your apple pipe. The first thing you need to do is remove the stem from the apple. Use your fingers to twist and pull the stem off.
You can also cut a slit around the stem to remove it that way instead.
Step 3: Bore A Hole Through The Top Of The Apple
Next, you need to place the pointed tip of the pen where the stem originally was and jam the pen into the surface of the apple. Make sure you jam it at a slight angle as well.
You need to push the pen in enough until you’ve gone about halfway into the apple.
Twisting the pen while you push can help to bore the hole if the apple is a bit tough.
Step 4: Bore Another Hole Near The Bottom Of The Apple
Once you have made the first hole in the top of the apple, remove the pen and bore a second hole near the bottom of the apple. You need to make sure that the hole is about half an inch from the apple’s base.
Use the pen to make the hole and bore in until you meet the first hole.
Step 5: Bore A Third Hole (Carb)
Take the pen again and insert it into the apple about an inch from the top hole. Push the pen into the apple until you feel it connect to the chamber you just made from the first and second holes.
This is the hole you will cover with your finger while you smoke, so it is important you get the placing right and it has to connect to the chamber. This hole is also known as the “carb”.
Step 6: Make A Bowl
Once the chamber system is taken care of, you then need to carve out a hollow shape on the top of the apple where the first hole was made.
You just need to make sure that the hollow shape is big enough to hold the weed you are planning on smoking.
Step 7: Testing The Pipe
Finally, give your pipe a test run! Pack the bowl at the top with your weed and hold the apple with one finger covering the carb (or third hole). Using your free hand, light the bowl, suck in with your mouth on the very bottom hole, and see if it all works.
Other Fruits & Vegetables You Can Use To Make A Pipe
If you don’t have any apples in the house, then there are a few other fruits and vegetables you can use instead. The process of making the pipe is basically the same, with some minor adjustments to fit the shape of the fruit or vegetable of your choice.
