How To Clean A One Hitter

One-hitters are pretty well known in the smoking community.

They are super convenient, affordable, and great to invest in if you are trying to conserve your weed.

They are also really easy to use, so if you are new to smoking, they will let you enjoy your smoke without worrying about learning to roll.

How To Clean A One Hitter

The biggest issue people face when it comes to one-hitters is finding the right way to clean them.

Though they are called “one-hitters”, you can use them a couple of times before you need to clean them, but because the resin from the weed builds up in them, cleaning can be a little bit of a pain.

We are going to show you exactly how to clean a one-hitter in a way that isn’t too time-consuming and is super easy to follow. So let’s get started.

What Is A One Hitter?

If you have never heard of a one-hitter before, then you’re about to find out exactly what it is!

As the name would suggest, it is typically a type of slender pipe that is used to smoke a single hit of weed.

One hitters are great for those times when you want to smoke a little bit of weed, but you don’t have time for a full joint, or you are just trying to watch how much you smoke.

They still get you a little high, but without it being too intense.

One hitters aren’t very expensive in most cases and come in lots of different materials.

They are especially great for people who can’t roll yet and have just started smoking weed.

How To Clean A One Hitter

Before we talk about methods, it’s important to know that there are typically three different types of one-hitters.

They come in the form of glass, dugout, and metal. Each one requires a different method of cleaning, so we are going to go over each of those methods here.

Method 1: Glass One-Hitter

Cleaning glass one-hitters is cheap and effective.

You will need a few things in order to clean it properly, and they include:

  • Ziploc or plastic container
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • (91% or above for best results)
  • 4-5 tablespoons of sea salt
  • Paper clip
  • Q-tips
  • Paper Towel

Once you have these items, follow these steps to clean your glass one-hitter properly.

Step 1

Remove any loose particles and place your glass one-hitter into a plastic bag.

You need to make sure that you use a plastic container because it does not react with Isopropanol.

Step 2

You then need to submerge your one-hitter by covering it with alcohol and salt. The coarser the salt, the easier it will be to break down the resin.

You need to mix the alcohol and salt a bit by shaking the bag or stirring your container.

Step 3

Now, seal your pipe in the bag and shake it repeatedly.

Once you have done this a few times, place the bag on a flat surface and leave it to mix and soak for about 30 minutes.

If your one-hitter is older or dirtier, leave it for about 3 hours, or overnight if you have the time.

When you are ready to take it out of the bag, make sure you shake it a little one more time.

Rinse the pipe with warm water and use a q-tip to clean the hard-to-reach areas. Give it one more rinse and then leave it to dry.

Method 2: Metal One-Hitter

One Hitter

This method is only suitable for metal one-hitters, so don’t use it if yours is glass or dugout.

For this method, you will need the following items:

  • Small Pot or saucepan
  • Stove
  • Water
  • Bobby pins, Q-tips, or a paperclip
  • Metal tongs with rubber pads

Step 1

Put your metal one-hitter into a small pot (a saucepan also works) and make sure you add enough water to cover the whole thing.

Step 2

Put your stove at the highest temperature. Once the water starts to boil, take the pot or saucepan off the burner.

Step 3

Now, let the pot or saucepan cool. Once it has cooled down a bit, gently pick up the metal pipe with some metal tongs and swish it around in the water a bit.

As you are doing this, the water will turn an amber color, which is completely normal.

Step 4

Take your metal pipe out of the water and rinse it. Use other tools such as the q-tips and make sure you clean your pipe thoroughly.

Once you have done this, leave it out to dry, and do not use it until it is completely dry.

Note: It is important to know that if you leave your metal pipe in water for too long, it can actually damage the pipe and make it useless to smoke with.

If your pipe is dirtier, use alcohol and salt to clean it before you try this method.

Method 3: Dugout One-Hitter

Dugout One-Hitters are usually made out of wood and they are a lot easier to clean than they might seem.

There are a couple of different ways in which you can clean them, so let’s take a brief look at them now.

Method 1: Pipe Cleaners

For this method, all you need to do is put a few pipe cleaners together and make sure they are hardy.

This method will allow you to clean out any caked-in resin.

Method 2: Cleaning Solution

For this method, you will need Isopropyl alcohol and salt solution.

You just need to pour the solution into the dugout’s chamber, seal it, and let it sit for about 30 minutes.

You need to then rinse the one-hitter thoroughly for about 5 minutes, and use pipe cleaners for a better result.

Use a hairdryer to then completely dry it out, which will also help to get rid of the solution more.

Conclusion

Get more use out of your one-hitter by following these cleaning methods.

Try them out for yourself and see how much longer your one-hitter will last!
